Professor's mission leads to the necromantic accounting game

Video games can be of all shapes and sizes. There is a lot of pleasure that comes from all the creativity that emerges in all kinds of people, and the relief of stress (or inducing) that can result. It can go from anything, playing a soothing game of Animal Crossing to run and survive in a Tomb Raider game. And sometimes, a game can take the shape of a spreadsheet.

Yes, seriously, a spreadsheet. Only this spreadsheet is for an army of living dead.

There is a bit of a background story, luckily. All this has actually been imagined by a game design teacher at the NYU Game Center, Alexander King. King, to launch a challenge to her students, asked them for a duty to create a game using Google spreadsheets as a base. And the students did not disappoint.

This particular game is called Dividends & Decay: Accounting for the Damned. This is an excellent game, and according to the description, it is about creating spreadsheets and working as an accountant for the military army of a necromancer. This sounds very Dungeons and Dragons by design, and even if it's not the case, it looks like a fun moment. Or maybe simply a good motivation to learn how to make accounting or at least use spreadsheets.

This is not however, the only project that has happened through this mission. There is another game called in the center of the earth, which is more centered on the steampunk and involves, well, to get the right pieces to break down. There is more variety of games than expected for this mission, not just puzzles or the use of the options of the spreadsheet for some. There is an iteration of Scrabble, a mystery of murder and many other things that can be played. This has made what could be considered a program and basic service, even focusing on work, much more fun, which is a pleasant surprise.

Some can be found (and played) via Itching, which can be found on the main list that was organized by King on Twitter.
